'The Knock' Survivor Poems
Healing from pain is a journey, not a moment. After the knock, that journey can be long and layered. Sometimes fresh wounds reopening old ones, and recovery unfolding slowly, step by step.
Creative expression has no boundaries and personal empowerment can be found through many mediums such art, dance, writing and poetry.
Over the years, when working with survivors of the knock, I have noticed patterns with the people that I have journeyed alongside. One of the most beautiful similarity many of us share is our creative spark. We are a community of creative artists and writers who have been inspired to write healing poetry.
In early 2025 we invited entrants for a poetry competition. All of the entries were wonderfully raw and unique that brought the reader on a journey through the knock via the eyes of the author. Common themes emerged such as storms, the elements, the agony and the light.
It is our pleasure to publish these poems and invite you to write one too. You can send it to us at info@theknock.club or save it for our next competition. All poems are anonymised or are pen names.
The winner of the competition was entitled “Dear Social Worker”. Enjoy!
